Testing Schedule
Spring 2025 Testing Schedule
From April 20th to May 31st, your child will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. CAASPP is an academic testing system that provides information used to monitor student progress annually and ensure that all students graduate high school ready for college and/or a career. CAASPP assessments include English–language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 3 to 5. Students in grade 5 take the California Science Test (CAST). Eligible Spanish-speaking English learners enrolled in grades 2-5 also take the Standards-based Test in Spanish (STS).
The tests feature various types of questions, including traditional multiple-choice items and those that require students to explain their answers and show their work. To learn about the types of questions on the computer-based tests or for additional information about CAASPP tests, you and your child can visit the California Department of Education website at this web address http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/, and parent guides can be found here.
In the spring of 2019, the CDE decided it would no longer print paper CAASPP results reports for parents. Consequently, parents will no longer receive their child’s paper report by mail. In Los Angeles Unified, parents can access their student’s electronic CAASPP Student Score Report in the Parent Portal or PASSport. The Parent Portal is a one-stop online system connecting parents and guardians to their student’s testing results and other essential data. Parents can monitor attendance, grades, assignments, update emergency telephone numbers, track progress toward graduation, and much more. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, we encourage you to create one soon.
But remember, the results from these tests aren’t meant to tell the whole story. Your child’s scores are intended to be one of several ways for you and your child’s teacher to assess how your child is progressing in school. Test scores, combined with student report cards and teachers’ observations of your child’s performance in the classroom, are used together to form a complete picture of your child’s achievement.
As a parent or guardian, you have the option to excuse your child(ren) from any part of the CAASPP. If you would like to excuse your child from any tests, you must submit your request in writing to the school [Education Code 60615.]. Please inform the school as soon as possible so we can make alternative arrangements for your child(ren).
At Beethoven Elementary School, our goal is for all students to achieve their full potential. The CAASPP test results are one way we can better understand if we are meeting that goal. Thank you for all you do to partner with us in your child’s education. If you have any questions regarding CAASPP, please contact us at 310-398-6286
