Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success, and it’s an area where we need to work together. Currently, more than 30% of our students were chronically absent during the 2025-26 school year. This means they have missed 6 or more days of school. With a 180-day school year, students need to miss no more than 6 days total to maintain good attendance.
As we look forward to welcoming our students back for an incredible new school year, we want to emphasize one of the single most important factors in your child’s academic and social success: excellent school attendance.
Every day of instruction counts. Did you know that when a student misses just one day of class, it can take three or more days to catch up on the lost instruction? Being present every day, on time, ensures that your child doesn't miss out on vital learning, classroom collaboration, and the strong daily routines that build confidence.
📈 The LAUSD Standard: 96% or Higher
LAUSD’s goal is for every student to maintain an Excellent Attendance rate of 96% or higher throughout the school year.
-
What does 96% look like? It means your child should miss no more than 7 days total across the entire school year (from August to June).
🗓️ How You Can Help Us Achieve This Goal:
-
Plan Vacations Around the Calendar: Please review our school calendar ahead of time and plan all family vacations and trips exclusively during designated school breaks (such as Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks).
-
Schedule Appointments Wisely: Whenever possible, please schedule non-emergency medical, dental, and optometric appointments after school hours or during breaks.
-
Establish Consistent Routines: Help your child get plenty of sleep and establish a reliable morning routine so they arrive at school on time every single day.
📝 If Your Child Must Be Absent:
We understand that illnesses or emergencies happen. California law requires the school to verify all absences.
-
Submit a Note: Every time your child returns from an absence, please send a written note (or digital message) to the Main Office within 10 school days. The note must include the student’s full name, date of birth, date of absence, specific reason (e.g., personal illness), and a parent/guardian signature.
-
Be Mindful of Truancy: Per state and district policy, three unexcused absences or tardies exceeding 30 minutes will classify a student as truant under California Education Code. Keeping open communication with our office helps us ensure all valid absences are properly cleared!
Let’s partner together to make this year a resounding success. Thank you for your continued commitment to your child's education and for helping us start strong this August!
